Top Ten MOST AWESOME Movie Shoot outs (Part 2 0f 2)

5) Equilibrium - Hall of Mirrors

Why is this scene #5 on my list? Two things. Christian Bale and GUN-KATA. In every typical action movie, the final conflict always has our hero kicking ass in the name of good, the hero falls to his/her enemy, and then rises again to defeat the enemy. That never happens in EQUILIBRIUM. In the final conflict of the movie, John Preston never falls. One man. Full of emotion. Mowing down every bad guy in sight, and no one can stop him.

4) The Matrix - Lobby Shoot-out
How can you make a top ten list featuring the most awesome movie shoot outs and not have THE MATRIX? You can't! The pace, action, visual effects, Oh my! The Wachowski Brothers used their awesome knowledge of Japanese animation and John Woo films to create arguably one of the most exciting action scenes ever made.

3) The killer/Hard boiled - Church/Hospital Shoot-outs

If I had chosen one over the other, the "other" would be left out, So, I made an exception for #3. What brings these two awesome John Woo scenes together is the comradeship between two men: one good cop and one conflicted hero. Put the two together and you are destined to watch something beautiful and violent on the screen.

2) Heat - Street Shoot-out

HEAT probably has the honor of having the most realistic shoot out in movie history. The loud and visceral sound of real automatic gun fire is what sets this scene apart from every other movie shoot out. You can feel the danger on both sides and because of this unrelenting "danger", this shoot out is one the most AWESOME pieces of action cinema ever made... It may not be #1... But, its #2 for a good reason...

1) The Wild Bunch - The wild bunch vs. The Mexican Army

Forget the MTV style pace of action or a bunch of dudes firing two guns at the same time. THE WILD BUNCH has the most AWESOME, most RIDICULOUS, most BLOODIEST showdown in the history of action cinema. These guys fuck up a lot of Mexicans! All in the name of brotherhood and friendship.
